2 Hours Sleep Hypnosis for Depression Anxiety Self Confidence ...

Dear Jody I woke up at 1+30: intended to take a short nap. This induced the most vivid dream I have had in years. I was searching the source of this voice in a setting that resembled a victorian park at one moment and a modern campus the? next. I was searching for this whirlpool and a golden leaf that was unaffected at the center. I could levitate through pools of water and over trees. Others seemed to be searching too. I kept searching for the source/voice. I awoke with tears/ecstasy/gratitude.

She meant reduce?not induce?those negative feelings. The need for rhetorical? sarcasm should subside in the first several minutes of the video.

This hypnosis was physically sedating and anxiolytic in nature, complemented by your flawless? and invitational vocalization. Logical parameters and assurances which precede the induction are unique features not found in other hypnotic audios. I thank you sincerely for helping us battle the various neuroses that have chained us to wakeful states, significantly catalyzing mental? health deterioration. I definitely look forward to hearing your other works and future submissions.

As I was coming out of my depression I still had down times but I didn?t let that? get me down. The periods grew shorter, less intense, and while they were happening I was able to be more functional. It does take time for some people but please don?t give up. Keep pointing yourself towards what is good and you will get there.

Thanks Tim. I love you too and excellent cliff jumping. You? are very brave.

Jonnie not sure if you do already but? if not try taking fish oil?I take three a day and after two weeks you should feel something?vitamin d and c also and get a sun light and use it 30 mins a day? You do all that and meditation all should change?.good luck and remember depression is something anybody can beat.

Puts me right to sleep I love you?

My deep? depression is returning ?. PLEASE let this help !

@jodywhitely I love? all of your videos. thank u sooooo much

Jody I am very appreciative of your guided meditations. I think one dealing with grief would be great,? and one for loss of a pet., I also think something that could be utilized during a panic attack would be very beneficial. And I would love to have one that teaches us not just to use you as our guide ? but to find and connect with our own inner guide.

NEC Terrain for AT&T spied in leaked press photos, packs a QWERTY keyboard

Memory of a time where an NEC phone graced US shores escapes us, but the prolific -- and often accurate -- @evleaks has tweeted a press shot that signals a handset from the Japanese firm might soon arrive stateside. Emblazoned with AT&T's logo and reportedly dubbed the NEC Terrain, the Android-toting smartphone shares its front real estate with a screen, a camera and a QWERTY keyboard. No other details were spilled with the image, but with a name like Terrain and what looks like a rubberized border, we wouldn't be surprised if it could withstand a fair amount of rough and tumble.

New drug stimulates immune system to kill infected cells in animal model of hepatitis B infection

New drug stimulates immune system to kill infected cells in animal model of hepatitis B infection

Monday, April 29, 2013

A novel drug developed by Gilead Sciences and tested in an animal model at the Texas Biomedical Research Institute in San Antonio suppresses hepatitis B virus infection by stimulating the immune system and inducing loss of infected cells.

In a study conducted at Texas Biomed's Southwest National Primate Research Center, researchers found that the immune modulator GS-9620, which targets a receptor on immune cells, reduced both the virus levels and the number of infected liver cells in chimpanzees chronically infected with hepatitis B virus (HBV). Chimpanzees are the only species other than humans that can be infected by HBV. Therefore, the results from this study were critical in moving the drug forward to human clinical trials which are now in progress.

The new report, co-authored by scientists from Texas Biomed and Gilead Sciences, appears in the May issue of Gastroenterology. Gilead researchers had previously demonstrated that the same therapy could induce a cure of hepatitis infection in woodchucks that were chronically infected with a virus similar to human HBV.

"This is an important proof-of-concept study demonstrating that the therapy stimulates the immune system to suppress the virus and eliminate infected liver cells," said co-author Robert E. Lanford, Ph.D., of Texas Biomed. "One of the key observations was that the therapy continued to suppress virus levels for months after therapy was stopped.

The current therapy for HBV infection targets the virus and works very well at suppressing viral replication and delaying progression of liver disease, but it is a lifelong therapy that does not provide a cure.

"This GS-9620 therapy represents the first conceptually new treatment for HBV in more than a decade, and combining it with the existing antiviral therapy could be transformative in dealing with this disease," stated Lanford.

The Gilead drug binds a receptor called Toll-Like Receptor 7 that is present in immune cells. The receptor normally recognizes invading viruses and triggers the immune system to suppress viral replication by the innate immune response and kill infected cells by the adaptive immune response, thus orchestrating both arms of the immune system.

HBV damages the liver, leading to cirrhosis and liver cancer. Liver cancer is the fifth most common cancer worldwide and the third most common cause of cancer death. According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), up to 1.4 million Americans are chronically infected with HBV.

The World Health Organization estimates that two billion people have been infected with the hepatitis B virus, resulting in more than 240 million people with chronic infections and 620,000 deaths every year.

Officials: 19 killed in car bombings in south Iraq

(AP) ? Three car bombs exploded Monday in public areas in two cities in Iraq's largely calm Shiite Muslim south, killing 19 civilians and wounding dozens, officials said.

The attacks come amid a week-long spike in sectarian violence following clashes at a Sunni protest camp in the north of the country.

Two parked car bombs went off simultaneously Monday morning in the city of Amarah near a gathering of construction workers and a market, killing 12 civilians and wounding 25, according to police. Amarah is located 320 kilometers (200 miles) southeast of Baghdad.

Another police officer said a parked car bomb exploded near a restaurant in the city of Diwaniyah, killing seven civilians and wounding 15 others. The city is located 130 kilometers (80 miles) south of Baghdad.

Two medical officials confirmed the casualty figures. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to release information.

Sectarian violence has spiked since Tuesday, when security forces tried to make arrests at a Sunni Muslim protest camp in the northern city of Hawija. The move set off a clash that killed 23 people, including three soldiers.

The Hawija incident and a spate of follow-up battles between gunmen and security forces as well as other attacks, including Monday's, have left around 200 dead in the last week.

Bomb attacks are relatively rare in Iraq's relatively peaceful southern Shiite cities.

No one has claimed responsibility for Monday's attacks, but coordinated bombings in civilian areas are a favorite strategy used by al-Qaida in Iraq.

Political Devolution : Kaieteur News

There has been an interesting discussion between PM Sam Hinds and former Minister of Education Dr Henry Jeffrey about possible ways of moving out of our Sisyphean political paradigm.
However while debating ?shared government? versus ?shared governance?, both interlocutors, like other politicians of the modern era, studiously ignored the possibility that our unitary state-structure might be part of the problem.
It would appear that Sir Arthur Lewis? 1964 commendation of ?coalition and federalism? for the institutionalisation of democracy in plural societies, has been forgotten.
I offer the following from my ?For a New Political Culture?, mentioned last week, to illustrate my point: ?Democracy? and ?plural societies? are not mutually exclusive but on the other hand one must recognise the obstacles the latter condition poses to the former ideal.
Over the last twenty-five years, (forty-five if we accept Dr Jeffrey?s thesis that the PPP practiced the same governance model albeit using different mechanisms) Guyana has experienced one ?solution? to the problem of a plural society: an authoritarian de-facto one party state that attempted to impose unity by militarising the society under a purported ?non-ethnic? ideology.
It was a complete failure: new approaches are necessary.
The proposals attempt to directly address conflicts in a plural society and this is an essential aspect of the process of integration.
The incentives that groups would be given to negotiate and bargain, over time should provide the basis for these groups to recognise their mutual interdependence and unity.
Approaches towards ameliorating the intensity of ethnic politics and moving it away from a zero sum position fall under two broad approaches: structural and distributive.
The two strategies are not mutually exclusive and in fact can be tailored to complement each other.
They incorporate five mechanisms to reduce conflict and encourage cooperation.
? Dispersal of power from away from the centre, towards the periphery where each ethnic group may have a share.
? Creating incentives for intra-ethnic rather than inter-ethnic rivalries.
? Creating incentives for inter-ethnic cooperation.
? Initiating policies, which emphasize interests other than ethnic ones.
? Reducing the gap between the various groups in contested areas.
One important caveat is that innovations should not be frozen in perpetuity; there must be mechanisms for incorporating changes as the society inevitably progresses and evolves and as the consequences of the initiatives are greater appreciated.
In this excerpt we focus on Political Devolution and suggest that Guyana should be reconstituted as a Federal Republic. In a society where the major ethnic groups each constitute majorities in different areas of the country, as in Guyana, political devolution offers the largest number of initiatives towards addressing ethnic insecurity.
There are several variants of devolution, ranging from strong Local Government to Federalism. The latter arrangement offers the most benefits to Guyana.
1. Abolishing winner-take-all politics.
In a federal structure, the central government would be concerned with national issues such as defence and foreign policy.
There would be substantial autonomy to the separate states, which will guarantee that the inhabitants of each state have real power over their lives.
Police functions, local development, local taxation and spending are only a few of the functions of the State Governments.
African Guyanese, for instance, would possess real power in Demerara, while the same would be true for Indian Guyanese in Berbice and Amerindian Guyanese in the interior states.
2. Removing the struggle for power at the centre.
When the centre does not possess all the power, the struggle to control it is not as intense.
The competition will be distributed among the states as groups within attempt to control. National politics will not be a zero sum game; ?losers? will still be guaranteed power at the state level.
3. Creating intra-ethnic rivalry
Fragmentation of the electorate leads to a lesser possibility of the majority dominating. Guyanese Indian politicians, dominant in Berbice or the Essequibo Coast, are more likely to see themselves as rivals for power at the centre.
Additionally, within a state, since one ethnic group will have an overwhelming majority, intra-ethnic rivalry will develop since no threat will be perceived to be coming from ?out groups? and there will be no place for ?not splitting the vote?.
4. Encouraging coalitions at the centre
In a situation where different interests will be represented at the centre, there will be incentives for cooperation between various states to ensure the implementation of common programs.
5. Creating fluidity and multi-polar balance rather than the previous bipolar confrontation.
As the various states manoeuvre for the maximum benefits for their citizens, the alliances at the centre will shift, depending on the issue. This should move the conflict from the more volatile bipolar mode.
6. Furthering the political philosophy of Government being responsive to the people and never overwhelming them.
The closer Government is to the people the more responsive it ought to be.
The state government should be the most sensitive to the idiosyncrasies of its citizens and region.
Local courts for instance would be most sympathetic to autochthonous needs.

Even Vinny Magalhaes can?t believe a judge gave him a round in UFC 159 loss to Phil Davis

At UFC 159 on Saturday night, Phil Davis showed off the best striking of his career. The NCAA Division-I champion wrestler clearly dominated Vinny Magalhaes in all three rounds on the way to a unanimous decision win. However, one of the judges thought Magalhaes won one round, and the score was 30-27, 30-27, 29-28.

It was a surprising score. It didn't take anything away from Davis' win, but it was odd enough that Magalhaes spoke up about it.

Davis and Magalhaes talked trash to each other for months before their bout. Magalhaes left the bad blood in the cage, and was able to give himself an honest assessment moments after the loss.

Rep. Matsui Introduces ?Broadband Adoption Act? Proposing ...

Earlier this week, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) reintroduced ?The Broadband Adoption Act of 2013? (H.R. 1685) to propose reforms and modernization to the nation?s telecommunications federal Lifeline Program. Bill co-sponsors include Ranking Members Henry Waxman (D-CA), Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA), and Reps. Diana DeGette (CO), Zoe Lofgren (CA), Jan Schakowsky (IL), G.K. Butterfield, (NC) and Ben Ray Lujan (NM).

Photo: http://matsui.house.gov/

Photo: http://matsui.house.gov

In remarks today at a hearing entitled ?The Lifeline Fund: Money Well Spent?? of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, Rep. Matsui emphasized that the history of the Lifeline Fund shows bipartisan support, with creation of the fund in the Reagan administration and expanded for wireless services by the Bush administration. She said that in her Sacramento, California district, nearly 30,000 of her constituents participate in the Lifeline program, 17,000 of which are seniors living on a fixed income.

?The Lifeline program must be reformed and modernized in a responsible manner, and it must account for the Internet Economy,? Matsui stated. ?Nearly 100 million Americans still have not adopted broadband, which is more concerning given more than 80 percent of available jobs in this country now require online applications.?

She said her bill allows eligible Americans in rural and urban communities to use Lifeline program for broadband Internet services, and not just voice services. The bill also requires the FCC to implement a national eligibility data base to ensure only one Lifeline per eligible household, to avoid waste, fraud and abuse of the program. Lifeline is funded by surcharges in federal communications services.

The bill gives the FCC 270 days after date of enactment to adopt a final rule establishing Lifeline program support for broadband that enables qualifying low income customers living in urban and rural areas to purchase broadband service at reduced charges by reimbursing providers who elect to participate in the program. The customer can elect to apply support from the Lifeline program to basic telephone service, voice telephony service or broadband service, whether each service is purchased stand-alone or in a bundle.

The bill directs the FCC should consider a preference to participating broadband providers who provide digital literacy programs as part of their offerings. The FCC is asked to consult with the Federal-State Joint Board whether state matching funds may be provided as a condition of eligibility for low income households within a particular state. The bill directs the FCC is to routinely study the prevailing market price for broadband service and prevailing speeds of broadband service adopted by households. The program is to be technology neutral; a provider need not be an ?eligible telecommunications carrier? to receive support under the program but should be FCC authorized to participate.

The Broadband Adoption Act drew supporting public statements by two FCC Commissioners, Chairman Julius Genachowski and Commissioner Mignon Clyburn. Last year, the FCC rolled out a pilot program to add broadband access to Lifeline?s support for landline and mobile phones. The new legislation would make broadband a permanent offering.

?I commend Congresswoman Matsui for her continued leadership on ensuring that low income Americans have access to broadband by addressing one of the key barriers to adoption ? cost,? commented Chairman Genachowski in a written statement. ?[T]ransitioning Lifeline support to 21st century communications is vital: today, broadband is essential for finding jobs, allowing children to do their homework, communicating in times of emergency and accessing vital health information.?

In her statement, Commissioner Clyburn emphasized that the FCC?s Lifeline reforms have led to significant savings of $200 million, which may grow to $400 million this year. She stated that ?expanding broadband service to low income consumers would be a boon for the nation with this savings.?

Chevy Spark EV rated 'most efficient' retail car with 82-mile range, 119 MPGe

Chevy Spark EV rated 'most efficient' retail car by EPA with 82-mile range, 119 MPGe

All EVs have their own particular merits: some climb, some race, some only have three wheels, and some are even prone to melting. Chevrolet's Spark EV may not have any of these credentials, but now it's found the right feather to fit its cap as the "most efficient" retail car. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that the Spark has a combined city / highway range of 82 miles on a full charge of its 21 kWh battery, and has given the vehicle a rating of 119 MPGe (a gasoline-equivalent figure). As Autoblog notes, Honda's Fit EV will go 82 miles on a smaller 20 kWh battery but, once the regulators have done fiddling with digits, it only scores 118 MPGe. That's the efficiency number that matters, and whether you're saving the world or just trying to save money, every mile counts. You'll be able to put that EPA rating to the test this summer when the Spark EV goes on sale in California and Oregon, but until then, check out the official certificate below the fold for more juicy details (read: efficiency stats).

Living with Google Glass, Day Two: Around the House

"You look ridiculous." This was not exactly the reaction I was hoping to receive from my wife the first time she saw me wearing Glass. She was long-since asleep when I arrived late the night before, and so had missed my triumphant, technologically augmented homecoming. I confess Google Glass is a bit odd-looking, but my wife is even more of a hardcore Trekker than I am and I thought somehow this headgear would channel her deep-seated love for bizarre, high-tech facial appendages.

Nope. She wasn't the least bit impressed. When she tried them later, she came around a bit, but spent more time saying the silicone grippers pinched her nose than reveling in the potential future applications of such technology. You can't please everybody.

Mid-Sized Businesses and Social Innovation: A Revealing View ...

Highlights from a new report on trends, challenges, and opportunities facing mid-sized companies engaged in social good.

Business with a purpose is a mantra moving through boardrooms, corner offices, human resources (HR) teams, and the nonprofit and philanthropic communities. While many large, public companies lead the way in corporate social responsibility (CSR), both the desire and opportunity to do socially good work are abundant for companies of all sizes. I?ve learned this is especially true for growing, mid-sized organizations, which are more often woven into the fabric of the communities in which their employees and customers live.

I am a volunteer and a part of Business4Better, a movement designed to teach any employee or business leader how CSR and business-nonprofit partnerships can lead to greater commercial success for their business. In January 2013, our team launched a research initiative to better understand the gaps and opportunities that mid-sized companies face in their CSR efforts, with the ultimate goal of creating action plans for executives trying to infuse social good as part of the way they do business. More than 170 executives from mid-sized organizations (100 to 5,000 employees) were surveyed to explore trends in social innovation, community engagement, and employee volunteering initiatives. The results uncovered some surprises and some irony in the state of community efforts led by this powerful class of businesses, which comprises roughly 26 percent of US businesses, according to The Midmarket Institute. You can read a full summary of the report, but below are some interesting highlights.

? Companies? community involvement is driven by purpose and not profit. An overwhelming majority?three-quarters of participants?said it is the opportunity to impact communities that underscores the need for CSR programs. Only 12 percent looked to use community engagement to impact the bottom line.

? Companies most commonly support a cause through donations, but there is opportunity to shift this culture of ?checkbook philanthropy? to meaningful, company-wide engagement. A significant proportion of mid-sized companies provide the framework for employee engagement beyond donations: Nearly 40 percent of surveyed companies provide time off for employees to volunteer, and more than 30 percent perform pro-bono services. In spite of this, employee participation remains low. Mid-sized organizations such as Jane Cosmetics, technology solutions provider Appirio, and Vitamin Shoppe are some of the companies choosing to shift away from this ?checkbook philanthropy.?

? Companies prefer to focus their social and community engagement efforts on local, people-focused initiatives. Almost two-thirds of mid-sized companies focus their organization?s CSR programs within their main offices? state. Most work with a small number of nonprofits for community involvement: more than one but fewer than five.

B4B_Survey_Issues_Graphic_CSR_people-focused

Mid-sized companies prefer to focus their CSR efforts on local, people-focused initiatives. (Illustration courtesy of Business4Better)

? A company?s community involvement is championed from the top. Yet, this does not always trickle down to drive company-wide engagement. Half of surveyed mid-sized companies said executive leadership, such as a CEO or owner, leads CSR efforts. This high-level support is often attributed to personal connections that executive leadership has with a cause. Many mid-sized companies are still managed by their founders that drive the organization?s philanthropic passions. However, overall employee engagement is a weak spot for many mid-sized companies, with most seeing less than 20 percent of their employees participating in these programs.

? The metrics of success do not match companies? goals for CSR. Few companies use CSR as a tool for employee engagement, yet they treat participation as an indicator of program success. Less than 10 percent of companies surveyed said they use CSR for employee engagement. More than 40 percent said they measure their community involvement programs by employee participation or employee satisfaction. Most surprisingly, more than one third of companies surveyed do not measure their programs at all. Clearly, there is a significant gap in the ways companies map out and measure their CSR efforts. With the right resources, training, and approach, companies can track and evaluate their CSR efforts from start to finish.

As I analyzed the survey results, it was clear to me that companies are missing opportunities to tie community and social innovation programs to successful business performance. While larger corporations may look to community involvement as a way to increase profits, most mid-sized companies do not. In fact, only about 20 percent of mid-sized companies measure a CSR program?s success by its financial impact. If goals and measurement indicators are set up properly from the start, bottom line, employee satisfaction, staff loyalty, brand image, and the ability to attract new talent can be success indicators of a company?s community involvement and CSR program.

AMD Radeon HD 7990 review roundup: fast, quiet but no world beater

Now that the veil has been lifted from the AMD Radeon HD 7990, it's time for the usual enthusiast review sites to reveal their thoughts -- and benchmarks -- on the latest graphics card from Sunnyvale. As we've mentioned, the 7990 has effectively two 7970 GPUs on board, promising over 8 TFLOPS of power and the chops to handle full 4K resolution under maximum settings. However, it's a pricey little thing at around $1,000, which doesn't set it too far away from the competition and its unique cooling system means an airy case is a must. What do our sample of reviewers think? Find out in our roundup after the break.
