The Washington DC office of Leo A Daly, a leader in the Architecture, Engineering and Interior Design Industry, is expanding its work in Asia and is seeking an experienced Business Development Leader for its China and Asia pursuits. This DC based, Mandarin speaking Registered Architect will function both in a business development and project liaison role for a variety of project types, including Master Planning and architectural design of mixed use developments containing 100-300m office/hotel/residential towers over multi-story commercial podiums. Candidate will be required to: Be the primary liaison between the Company?s Corporate International Business Development teams in Beijing and Hong Kong and the DC office profit center on a day-to-day basis. Inform and educate US based senior office leadership about business development opportunities. Lead and have primary responsibility for verifying information, background ?intelligence? and factual documentation, in order to perform due diligence (Go/NoGo) process, negotiate agreements, make recommendations based on industry research and analysis and develop responses to Request for Proposals and Competition Tenders. Work with Project Managers in evaluating scope, complexity, and scheduling requirements of projects; Validate work planning strategies to ensure successful project execution. Be responsible for data gathering, lead generation and maintenance of in-house project information for defined market and representative samples of data for client presentation. Prepare Qualification packages with assistance from office?s marketing coordinators. Populate and maintain a central database with competition and project documentation, fees and qualification materials. Coordinate, through office Director of Operations, as needed Office resources to support Regional Director requests for subject matter expertise, presentations, speaking and writing engagements, and interviews as may be requested by the Region and approved by the Office Managing Principal. Participate in recurring Regional Business Development opportunity calls and summit meetings. Participate in recurring International Operations calls and meetings. Must: Be able to travel to China on as short as 24 hour notice and remain in-country for up to several weeks at a time. Must be comfortable in situations where responsiveness, resourcefulness, flexibility and diplomacy, grace, respect and professionalism are necessary to satisfy Clients. Understand the Architectural business of delivering excellent high quality work, quickly and within the financial success parameters established annually by the Company. Have experience in personally preparing fee proposals, contracts and ongoing daily client correspondence. Possess a Business Development mind set, a ?closer? mentality and a ?desire to excel? persona. Be able to communicate and coordinate actions across geographical locations Have excellent client management, customer service orientation, and writing, verbal and presentation skills. Obtain knowledge of the expertise of design team members, the WDC office history of project types and capabilities (and non-capabilities) of the office, in order to advise and educate Corporate Business Development personnel in Asia. Be available for late hour and early morning conference calls and other overseas interactions due to time zone differences. Have ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously. A successful candidate will develop and maintain a network of vendors, suppliers, consultant, etc., who work in the assigned market who can serve as sources of project leads. They will also collect data indicating current market trends in China. The candidate should also possess strong marketing skills, fiscal responsibility, team management, and leadership skills. This position is a direct report to the Office Managing Principal, but is expected to work collaboratively with the Office Director of Operations, Design Director, International Project Managers and Marketing Coordinators.
