Technology and the robbing of childhood. - Social Anxiety Forum

I strongly believe that being exposed to ... playing violent computer games, and browsing the internet for hours on end.

Kids STILL do this now.
Kids still go outside and communicate.
In the 90's, the thing you were talking about STILL happened: people STILL sat on their butts playing violent video games, and sitting in front of the television. I should know, I DID IT. I'm sure something similar occurred in the 80's and the 70's.
We can't generalize all children today just because of that. What on earth even constitutes as a "childhood" anyways? What? Always being outside, creating problems and the like? What about sitting on your butt all day with your friends playing cool video games? How can that NOT equal a great childhood?!

When you think about it, if you're outside everyday playing with friends at a young age, on a daily basis you are consistently working as a group to solve basic problems. You learn as a group how to get past obstacles you may face.

Multiplayer Video games are the same. Working with your friends to overcome a problem at hand. Sure, it may not be outside, but it still incorporates all of the principles that playing outside in groups... well, minus the outside of course, haha!

All I am really trying to say is that I truly believe that technology has ruined the ability for many children to properly experience the world for themselves, as instead they live in artificial worlds and do not know how to cope with outside pressures or situations. Thoughts?

Whilst, I get your point, I still think that the final line is fail. Lots of technology DOES NOT ALWAYS EQUAL artificial world. In my case, it was the opposite, technology was how I communicated to the world. I talked to people about technology. I made friends with people because of technology. I am bettering my life, thanks to all of the technology you seem to be against in this post. From the 90's (just so you don't use the generation argument). But I suppose I can't use just myself as a general statement.

Of course, I wish that we could load checkpoints and reset situations in real life, but, who doesn't? And of course, you ARE right, just not for ALL of the children. Heck there are some children playing outside RIGHT now from my window, what are you gonna say to them?
This is gonna make me sound like an a**, but it sounds like you are just sucking up to nostalgia. But I DO see where you are coming from.

...
I'm sorry, I guess I just got a grudge with these kinds of posts. It's completely not fair to today's kids: constantly being barraged like this. Of course, many deserve it (the little f***ers) but many, in fact, most, don't. Most kids today are, while still cheeky b******s (but then again, many were at my childhood aswell), are very similar to their older counterparts. Most are nice, good people. Most of them are just trying to live their lives. But I don't know, maybe I am just too optimistic.
