The Secrets of Effective Time Management | learn in ireland

We are all born procrastinators. Usually a small dose of procrastination is harmless. For some this can be the difference between a productive work day and not getting the right things done in a work day. If this is the type of person you are it?s most likely as easy as fixing your time management skills. Luckily, time management is a skill that anybody can develop. You only need to put some effort into it and don?t allow yourself to get distracted. Increase your productivity and focus with these helpful tips.

Write out a simple list of goals you set for yourself. You can type them out into a word document if you like, but you should hand write them on a piece of paper and keep that piece of paper somewhere close by. Having this list makes it possible for you to look at it from anywhere if you feel like your focus is fading. You will be more likely to spend less time browsing the internet or staring off into space if you have a focused list to guide you. You taking the time to write out your goals will help you feel as though they are more concrete than a word document that can easily be erased at will. Goals don?t have to be monsterous, in fact they can be as small as you need them to be. So why not write them down. By taking one big job and dividing it into several easier ones, you can often manage your time more efficiently. When you do this, large projects are not so intimidating, as you can work at them in stages. If you plan far enough in advance you can even work on that project over several days, which will help keep it fresh and interesting. Most people have a tendency to avoid large tasks, procrastinating until the very last minute. This is because the job is so large it confuses or frightens us. When the large project has been divided into smaller parts, it no longer seems unmanageable, and you can start to work on it.

Make sure you get a reward for doing a good job! Allow yourself a break, and something you enjoy, if you get everything done on time. Having something pleasurable awaiting us will make us work harder. Come up with a reward that?s appropriate for you. The type of reward that will work best will depend on what motivate you to do your best. This gives you a pleasurable goal to strive for, aside from just completing the job. When there is no reward, there is little drive to keep drudging away at your day to day schedule. A reward adds the element of fun to your work. Having fun actually helps you manage your time better.

Anyone who puts their mind to it can improve in the time management department. If you keep the above guidelines in mind, you will find that you can quickly develop abilities in this area.

You can get better at time management by planning your day realistically and then staying focused on each task you work on. The more you work at it, the better at it you will be.
