3 Ways To Keep Your Family Out Of The Sick Zone | Pregnancy Blog

Posted on 26. Oct, 2012 by Danielle Buffardi in Family

It?s that time of year, mamas. And as much as we?d love for our family members to avoid getting sick, we know that?s highly unlikely.

But it?s not impossible.

Practicing good hygiene habits is always a forerunner in helping to stop the spread of germs to the rest of our family.

Here?s three easy ways to keep you and your family on the healthy track during cold season and away from the sick zone.

1. Keep Your Hands Clean

You?ve heard this a hundred times from every source, but it really is the best way to help keep germs at bay.

And use your better judgment here for you and your family. Make the kids wash their hands when they get home from school, after handling food, and of course after each bathroom run.

Our kids learn by example, don?t forget, so if they see their parents practicing good hygiene rituals, chances are they?ll pick up the same routines as they get older.

It?s also wise to keep a bottle of hand sanitizer in every car and use it often ? like after any trips to the stores and after sports practices.

Get your family in the habit of sanitizing their hands on a regular basis when soap and water isn?t an option.

2. Be Observant

If there?s coughing and sneezing going on, move away.

If you?re coughing and sneezing, cover your mouth and sanitize your hands immediately afterwards.

Be mindful of keeping your hands away from your face and remind your family to do the same. While most germs can be spread through the air, some revel in hand-to-hand contact, that?s why it?s important to wash your hands regularly and keep them off of your face.

Always have a can of Lysol handy at home and use it around the house on a regular basis to clean things like the phone, the doorknobs, and other hard surfaces.

I?ve always preferred the can of Lysol to the wipes since you can just spray and go ? no need to wipe as it evaporates as it disinfects.

3. Get Enough Rest

Your body needs to rejuvenate itself in its entirety, and what better way to give it a head start and a strong foundation than by giving it the proper amount of rest and relaxation.

Be sure to have a nighttime routine that?s followed and stuck to by both parents and the kids. Getting everyone in a routine for a full night?s rest will not only help those that do get bitten by the sick bug, but it will especially be a great aid against getting sick in the first place.

If your body is at it?s best before getting sick, you?re giving it the best fighting chance to win at not getting sick, that?s an easy way to look at it.

  • If the sick zone does hit your house and family, be sure to check in with the family doctor so they can be aware of the symptoms your family member is going through and point you in the direction of the proper medicine for such symptoms.
