Debt ridden DLF is responsible for all mess: RWA President

ACCORDING TO Ashok Arya, RWA president DLF Phase 1, famed Delhi Land and Finance Limited (DLF) is a ?hugely debt-ridden? company and that ?is a reason the life of residents has become hell?.

Famed as India?s largest commercial real estate company, DLF is often credited with giving a new face to Gurgaon and even turning it into a so called ?Millennium City?, but that doesn?t stop Mr Arya from holding it responsible for widespread ?mess?. "All agencies like DLF and HUDA are responsible but they all are passing blame on each other. But the major role is played by DLF in spreading this mess for the people living in its colonies," alleged Mr Arya.

Residents, according to Mr Arya are going through acute water shortage even after paying huge amount for maintenance to DLF Company. ?We depend on DLF for every maintenance activity and they are charging a huge amount for water supply from all of us,? Mr Arya alleged.

If DLF is charging residents as per Mr. Arya then what could be the reason that people are suffering from acute water shortage in such a high class living areas. When asked, Mr Arya blamed ?huge debts? due to which DLF is unable to maintain the area or provide even basic facilities to the residents. ?DLF is under the debt of Rs 22,500 crores and that is why they are just focusing on clearing debts through our pockets" alleged Mr. Arya.

He also said that DLF is disposing off their assets to clear that debt and even using public money by doubling the maintenance charges. According to Mr. Arya, initially DLF was charging 1 rupee per square yard but now they have increased maintenance charges to 2.50 rupees, that is almost 250% increase of burden on residents.

But this money is not coming back to the residents of the colony. "No basic facilities, no proper maintenance of area, no cleaning is done by DLF in spite of taking huge money in the name of maintenance charges" Mr. Arya informed.

Not only water but now this colony is also depending on Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) to maintain electricity supply and transformers in the area. "We are taking help from DHBVN to replace these old transformers as DLF is not upgrading them. We had to pay for that also," informed the President.

Besides the DLF, Mr Arya holds HUDA responsible for the water shortage in the area. ?HUDA administrator, Praveen Kumar told us that boosting pumps are out of order but when we visited these stations we found that there were no generators to pump the water and there was not even regular electricity supply to run water boosting pumps," informed Mr. Arya. It is necessary to run those pumps continuously at-least for 6 hours but lack of power made them of no use as DLF phase 1 is located on a higher level and more energy is needed to pump the water to the area.

Though Kumar, according to Mr Arya fulfilled his promise and got generators installed but even that failed to work for the residents. ?Then boosting pumps went out of order; can't say what we will do in this situation. We were promised to get 2hrs of water supply in morning and 1 hr in evening but currently we are not getting even half an hour of water supply," a worried Mr. Arya rued.

Mr Arya is completing 25 years in the colony but claims that he has seen no change and development in his area but is hopeful for the best future. "We have written a letter to Rajeev Singh, Vice-chairman of DLF limited and requested him to look into the matter and we are hopeful," informed Mr Arya.

Thankfully there is no water logging in the area not because of efforts of DLF or HUDA but because of its inclined location due to which water flows down immediately, otherwise this could have added more problems for the residents. Who can be hold responsible for the current mess - builder, agencies or administration? "These big builders like DLF put all these local agencies and even administration into their pockets. Their center is not people and their welfare but just huge profits," Mr Arya responded angrily.
