Exercise and Heart Health : Ideas For Women Health and Fitness Blog

Exercise or cardio exercise is good for your heart, yes. But is there ever a time when exercise should be curtailed or postponed? And what kind of exercise is good specifically for the heart and circulation? Loaded questions to be sure and questions that may elicit different answers depending on who you are asking.

In general, exercise that raises your heart rate and is done for 30 minutes at least 3 times a week will improve your heart and circulation. Studies have shown that exercising like this will decrease your risk for heart disease and stroke, help to lower your blood pressure, and help you maintain your weight. If you are exercising to loose weight or to condition for a race or marathon than the exercise routine and expectation would be slightly different. Training in those instances should be monitored by a physical trainer. Cardio exercise over 3 times a week may also need to be monitored for results by a physician or trainer. Always check with your doctor before starting any new exercise routine.

Is there a time when exercise should be avoided? It is usually avoided during an illness especially with fever. It should be avoided if you experience chest pain or shortness of breath, pain, fainting, or decrease in the level of consciousness that is normal for you. Remember that this is by no means meant to take the place of any advice you receive from your doctors but meant only as a guideline to help you gage what is best for your life and health status.

Exerxcise doesn?t always have to be strenuous. It can be done in a wheel chair and be passive if it is designed to keep muscles limber and tendons loose. The point is exercise needs to be planned for each individual and the state of their health. Healthy adults can walk 30 minutes 3 times a week and improve their overall heart health without a being a big deal but someone who is compromised with an illness or injury will not be able to participate at the same level.

Choose what level of exercise is best suited for your current health status. Make it a goal to improve and increase your exercise as your endurance improves. Speak freely with your physician about your exercise goals. And just move. It will make your heart strong.
